Our Story

About Boston Rhythmic

From one coach and ten gymnasts in 2002 to one of the largest and most innovative rhythmic gymnastics communities in North America, we are still, at heart, one big rhythmic family.

Every Great Journey Begins With a Dream

Every great journey begins with a dream. Ours began in 2002, when Founder Smaranda Albeck started Rhythmic Dreams in the Newton Armory with one coach and ten eager gymnasts. As the community grew, so did the vision. The program expanded first to Needham in 2007, then evolved into Boston Rhythmic in 2015. Today, Boston Rhythmic is one of the largest and most innovative rhythmic gymnastics organizations in North America.

Our Westborough location opened in 2018. In 2023, we proudly launched our fastest growing program in Hyde Park, currently operating at the state-of-the-art Athletic Center at Boston Trinity Academy.

That same year, in 2023, we began transforming the historic Embassy Cinema in Waltham into the Embassy Performing Arts Center, an exciting community hub where children can learn, create, perform, and grow.

Today, our programs serve nearly 1,000 children each year across multiple locations.

Although we have grown and evolved over the past 25 years, one thing has never changed: at heart, we are still one big rhythmic family.

Our coaches become mentors. Our staff become family. Our students become lifelong friends.

We believe children thrive when they feel welcomed, encouraged, and celebrated. Every day, we work to create a community where every child belongs.

A Dream That Keeps Growing

After graduating from MIT Sloan School of Management, Smaranda Albeck left a successful consulting career to pursue what many considered a crazy idea: building the kind of rhythmic gymnastics program she wished existed for her daughter, Ada.

That is how Rhythmic Dreams was born in 2002, from a mother's passion and drive to support her daughter in fulfilling her potential in the sport she loved.

Just four years later in 2006, Ada earned a place on the USA National Team, a milestone reached later by three other Rhythmic Dreams students: Elektra Markogianakis, Anya Zhang, and Gemma Gow.

After retiring from competitive gymnastics, Ada returned to Boston Rhythmic as Head Coach. She helped shape a culture and teaching philosophy rooted in positive coaching, mental health, and a healthy work ethic.

On this strong foundation, Boston Rhythmic expanded its programs and staff over the decades that followed.

Today, Boston Rhythmic continues to push the sport forward through creativity, innovation, and an unshakable commitment to children.

Gymnastics for Everyone

Whether your child is taking their very first preschool class or training for National Championships, we believe every gymnast deserves exceptional coaching and an unforgettable experience at Boston Rhythmic.

Our mission goes far beyond teaching gymnastics.

We want children to build confidence, discover resilience, make lifelong friendships, embrace challenges, celebrate one another's successes, and leave each class smiling.

Our coaching philosophy combines technical excellence with creativity, kindness, and joy. The result is an environment where children feel inspired to become the very best version of themselves.

Over the years, we added programs like the International Boston Cup and the Boston Cup series, our extraordinary Rhythmic Around the World summer shows, and summer camps. Through every program we host, we celebrate our diversity and open our doors to new students who are proud to call Boston Rhythmic their second home.

We are truly Rhythmic Gymnastics FOR ALL.

Growing Beyond Rhythmic Gymnastics

As our community has grown, so have our programs.

Today, Boston Rhythmic offers much more than rhythmic gymnastics. Families can explore Aerial Arts, Tumbling, Breakdancing, Preschool Movement, Summer Camps, Theater and Movies, special events, and many other exciting activities at the Embassy Performing Arts Center and our satellite locations. We even offer a free fitness program for seniors, along with exciting adult classes and performing opportunities.

Every program shares the same goal: helping our students become stronger, more confident, more creative, and happier.

Excellence On and Off the Competition Floor

Our athletes continue to earn medals, Grand Champion titles, and top placements at State, Regional, and National Championships while representing Boston Rhythmic with sportsmanship, determination, and pride.

Our coaching team has grown into one of the strongest in the country, bringing together Olympians, National Champions, and internationally accomplished coaches who share their experience and passion with our students every day.

Throughout the year, we are honored to welcome world-renowned guest coaches, Olympians, and choreographers from around the globe, giving our athletes the opportunity to learn from some of the very best in our sport.

Celebrating Our World

One of the traditions our families love most is our annual Around the World theme.

Our end-of-year performances and summer camps celebrate the incredible diversity of our Boston Rhythmic family through music, dance, costumes, traditions, and stories from cultures across the globe. Every child has the opportunity to learn about the world while proudly sharing their own heritage with friends.

It is one of the many ways we celebrate what makes our community so colorful, welcoming, and unique.
